Running with the Devil Trailer Teams Nicolas Cage & Laurence Fishburne in Cocaine Thriller

Quiver Distribution dropped the trailer for the Nicolas Cage-led thriller Running with the Devil today. The National Treasure actor stars alongside the Matrix's Laurence Fishburne in the drug trafficking flick where, "From the fields to the streets, everyone is running with the devil."

When a cocaine shipment is compromised, the drug cartel's CEO, known as The Boss (Crawl's Barry Pepper) orders his most trusted henchman, Cage's The Cook, to audit the company's supply chain. Or as Nicolas Cage says in the trailer, he has "administrative issues [he has] to attend to." Joining him on the dangerous journey is a master drug trafficker known as The Man (Academy Award Nominee Laurence Fishburne).

The drugs are making their "perilous trek across international borders past gangsters, refiners, and couriers," but they're also being tracked by Federal Agents under The Agent in Charge played by Leslie Bibb (Iron Man) who, the trailer tells us, doubles the task force. Unfortunately, by the time The Cook realizes where the drug network is breaking down, it may be too late. He might not be able to keep the cartel and The Boss satisfied.

The film is written and directed by Jason Cabell. This will be his first solo directorial project and the second film he has penned. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cabell, a former Navy SEAL, pulled from his real-life experiences to create the film. He reportedly served in more than 100 countries, including a stint in which he worked closely with the DEA in Colombia.

Running With the Devil is produced by Patriot Pictures' Michael Mendelsohn alongside Jim Steele (Vengeance: A Love Story and USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage). Mike Nilon, Etchie Stroh and Natalie Perrotta are executive producing. The film stars Nicolas Cage as The Cook, Cole Hauser as The Executioner, Clifton Collins Jr. as The Farmer, Laurence Fishburne as The Man, Leslie Bibb as The Agent in Charge, Barry Pepper as The Boss, Peter Facinelli as Number One, Adam Goldberg as The Snitch, Natalia Reyes as The Woman, Sarah Minnich as The Wife, and Tait Fletcher as The Collector.

Nicolas Cage has amassed a filmography of more than 100 films that range anywhere from romantic or family comedies like Moonstruck and The Family Man, cult classics like Face/Off and Gone in 60 Seconds, despised films like The Wicker Man and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and largely unseen movies like Pay the Ghost and Dying of the Light.

He's found moderate success in a couple of his recent projects, however. He lended his voice for a small role in the hugely successful, both critically and financially, Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. Cage played the noir version of Spider-Man in the uniquely animated film. His recent trek into surrealism and violence found solid reviews. Mandy follows a couple who find tragedy during a run-in with a hippie cult and demon-biker henchmen in a secluded forest. In other words, we don't know what to expect from a Cage film these days, but the new trailer has us curious.

Running With the Devil hits theaters on September 20. The trailer comes direct from Quiver Distribution.

Jim Gaffigan Goes Dark in Kidnapping Thriller

The intense new trailer for American Dreamer from Saban films has dropped and it has us looking at Jim Gaffigan in a new light. The comedian is taking on his most intense role yet in the thriller from relatively newcomer Derrick Borte (London Town). Gaffigan (Being Frank) plays a rideshare driver who goes to extreme lengths in order to free himself from crushing debt.

In order to maintain custody rights of his son, Cam (Jim Gaffigan) needs to make some extra cash. So, he starts chauffeuring a low level drug dealer named Mazz, played by Robbie Jones (Temptations: Confessions of a Marriage Councilor). The pay isn't enough, so he finds another way. He kidnaps the dealer's child in hopes of getting ransom. To make things more complicated, Mazz enlists Cam to drive him around the city. Gaffigan had this to say about his character.

"This guy, he's like an Uber or Lyft driver who's had some bad luck, he tried the white-collar job, and instead of looking at his own problems he's looking for that quick fix to get out of it...This guy is trying to piece his life together in the easiest, most selfish way."

Although dramatic, the character isn't quite so far removed from Gaffigan's usual less-than-intelligent characters. The star went on to say this.

"He doesn't set out to do that. All the motivations of my character are not evil, but maybe they're a little dimwitted. Hopefully, you see him justify these actions. It's not for comedic effect. It's like, 'Oh, dude, don't do that.'"

The indie film hopes to use the limited setting and tense character interplay to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. For movies like Drive and Collateral, this has worked great. Others haven't been so lucky. The high-energy trailer promises a captivating performance from stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan. He's most known for his TV series, The Jim Gaffigan Show, which ran from 2015 to 2016 and comedic supporting roles in films such as Hot Pursuit and Super Troopers 2.

But, early reviews hail his intense and nuanced performance in American Dreamer. He'll be working alongside Robbie Jones' Mazz for the bulk of the film. Jones made his debut as troubled teenager, Quentin Fields, on One Tree Hill. Then, after a series of guest or recurring roles for the small screen and little known films, he snagged a role in Tyler Perry's Temptation and another in Samuel L. Jackson's 2019 Shaft. If he can pull off the erratic and ruthless drug dealer hinted at in the trailer, American Dreamer may just work.

The film is co-written by relatively newcomers Daniel Forte and director Derrick Borte. It's produced by Scott Floyd Lochmus (London Town). The three creators had previously worked on the low-budget film H8RZ. American Dreamer is also starring Tammy Blanchard, Isabel Arraiza, and Brian K. Landis. American Dreamer first premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival and will be released to theaters, digital and on-demand on September 20. This news comes to us by way of Collider.

Chadwick Boseman Stars in Russo Bros. Cop Killer Thriller

Chadwick Boseman reunited with the Russo Brothers for their upcoming 21 Bridges. The Avengers: Endgame directors are producers on the project while Brian Kirk took over directing duties from a screenplay written by Adam Mervis and Matthew Michael Carnahan. This is a far cry from the world of Black Panther, but Boseman is still a badass as he hunts cop killers in New York City. The Russos debuted the latest trailer for 21 Bridges at their San Diego Comic-Con panel earlier this afternoon.

As we see in the first Comic-Con trailer, 21 Bridges follows an embattled NYPD detective (Chadwick Boseman), who is thrust into a citywide manhunt for a pair of cop killers after uncovering a massive and unexpected conspiracy. As the night unfolds, lines become blurred on who he is pursuing, and who is in pursuit of him. When the search intensifies, extreme measures are taken to prevent the killers from escaping Manhattan as the authorities close all 21 Bridges to prevent any entry or exit from the iconic island.

In order to properly prepare for 21 Bridges, Chadwick Boseman went out on patrols with real NYPD officers. This is a common practice for actors when getting ready for a police officer role, but it looks like Boseman went pretty deep into the process. He recently spoke about his preparation process and how it affected him. Boseman had this to say.

"At times it was a lot of fun hanging out with them; at other times it was horrific, some of the things you experience. One of the things they talked about a lot was how the job affects them personally - how the job takes over their entire lives, and I think that's an element of this film that we try to stay true to."

In addition to Chadwick Boseman, 21 Bridges also stars Sienna Miller, Stephan James, Keith David with Taylor Kitsch, and J.K. Simmons. Joe and Anthony Russo also recently talked about the upcoming movie and what viewers can expect when venturing into theaters to check it out. Joe Russo had this to say about 21 Bridges.

"The Winter Soldier is an example of how thrillers were really important to our cinematic upbringing and this one is awesome. I mean, it's intense. The action is fantastic. It's the kind of movie that they're, I feel like they're not really making a lot of anymore. It's a real throwback to a 70's thriller. It's, it feels like a Lumet movie."

21 Bridges hits theaters on September 27th, and if the latest Comic-Con trailer is any indication, it's going to be an intense ride, full of psychological twists and turns. Chadwick Boseman will soon be getting back to Wakanda and the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Black Panther 2 begins shooting. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige is expected to make an announcement about the highly anticipated sequel this weekend. While we wait for more news, you can check out the 21 Bridges trailer below, thanks to the STX Entertainment YouTube channel.

Jacob's Ladder Remake Trailer Gives the Classic Thriller a Creepy Twist

The Jacob's Ladder remake trailer is finally here after years of waiting. The project has been in the works since 2013 and has gone through several changes behind-the-scenes since it was initially announced. The goal the whole time was to make a movie that paid homage to the original while making something contemporary. The original Jacob's Ladder came out in 1990 and starred Tim Robbins as a Vietnam veteran who is dealing with the loss of his young son and begins to have flashbacks, along with visions of terrifying demons.

Vertical Entertainment has picked up the Jacob's Ladder remake and they released the first trailer today. It looks intense and creepy, but one has to wonder if this is something horror fans really want to see. The movie has been on the backburner since it was shot in 2016 and has had more than a few release date changes since them. With that being said, The DISH Network will premiere the remake in July exclusively and then it will get a theatrical run beginning August 23rd.

In the Jacob's Ladder remake, Jacob Singer is getting his life back together after his brother is killed in Afghanistan. Jacob seems to have it all. He has a beautiful wife, a newborn child, and a successful career as surgeon in a VA hospital. However, things start to shift when a stranger approaches Jacob and reveals that his brother is actually alive and living in an underground shelter with other homeless vets. Jacob begins hallucinating, believes he is being followed by violent attackers, and becomes paranoid about the truth of what really happened to his brother because he never saw the dead body. When he discovers that his brother is alive and addicted to an experimental drug, he uncovers a secret he never could have been prepared for.

With the DISH debut of the Jacob's Ladder remake before the theatrical release, it would seem that the studio does not have much faith in the long-talked about project. It's taken six years to get to this point and there have been a lot of changes to the script, which might not bode well for the movie at all. However, this is all speculation and the horror remake could end up being quite good, though one has to imagine we would have seen it a lot sooner than now if that were the case.

The Jacob's Ladder remake trailer features about two-minutes of footage. It gives a good explanation as to what the story is about as we watch Michael Ealy's version of Jacob Singer starts to go off the rails. The movie was directed by David M. Rosenthal from a script written by Jeff Buhler and Sarah Thorp. In addition to Ealy, the remake also stars Jesse Williams and Nicole Beharie. You can watch the trailer for the Jacob's Ladder remake below, thanks to the Vertical Entertainment channel.
